What I’ve created is essentially a real-life version of Crossy Road. Using code from OpenProcessing, I combined body tracking with a coded movement game where players try to cross from one side to the other without being hit by cars. This idea is designed to help patients in pediatric therapy by turning physical therapy exercises into a fun, interactive experience. Instead of viewing therapy as uncomfortable or like homework, this game encourages children to move, engage, and enjoy their sessions while still achieving therapeutic goals.

Meet Lily Martinez

Lily recently suffered a minor knee injury while playing soccer and is going through physical therapy to regain strength and balance. She’s not excited about therapy because she finds the exercises repetitive and slow, but she loves games and competition. Her parents and therapist are looking for ways to make her sessions more engaging so she’ll stick to the recovery plan and move correctly.

This annotated physiological user experience diagram captures the user’s physical and emotional progression during the therapy session. It maps the key moments of movement, interaction, and feedback, demonstrating how each aspect of the design contributes to keeping users engaged and motivated. Through developing this diagram, I gained clearer insight into user needs and was able to design an experience that encourages active, enjoyable participation in therapy.

This journey map visualizes the user’s overall experience throughout the therapy process, from initial interaction to completion. It highlights key emotional and physical touchpoints, revealing how users engage with the system at each stage. By mapping out these moments, I was able to identify opportunities to enhance motivation, improve usability, and create a more enjoyable, rewarding therapy experience.

This piece represents the full development of my idea, showing how design, interaction, and technology connect to create an engaging user experience.
